Frustrated Tracy aims for podium
Paul Tracy is confident that he can salvage a podium from the Monterrey Champ Car race after struggling for pace in practice
The former champion qualified fifth, beaten only by the Newman/Haas and RuSPORT cars, but was 0.756 seconds slower than polesitter Sebastien Bourdais.
"It's been a frustrating weekend," Tracy said. "We can't seem to solve some issues that we have with the car and it's kept us from getting closer to the front.
"We've been having problems with the brakes, as soon as I try to go deep into the braking zone I lock up and it's slowing me down."
Last year's Monterrey race was a particularly chaotic event, and Tracy thinks that staying out of trouble will be the key factor in the result.
"It's going to be a tough fight tomorrow, this track is very slippery and between that and the heat there's going to be a lot of mistakes out there," he said.
"If we can have a consistent race, without any mistakes, and good pit stops I know that we'll be able to finish on the podium."
