Frijns pondering F2 for 2011
Formula BMW Europe champion Robin Frijns says he is considering racing in Formula 2 next season, after sampling the car on a test day at Valencia
The 19-year-old Dutchman pipped Briton Jack Harvey to the BMW crown at the final race, and is weighing up F2 as an option for 2011.
"I enjoyed the whole day," Frijns said. "It's a world of change, from BMW with 150bhp to F2 with 425bhp. You have to drive completely differently, you have to be very smooth with the steering and the throttle, and in the first session I was just working on that because I was struggling to find the traction.
"It went better and better though, and I was a bit surprised in myself at the end as I was only two tenths off [Adrian] Valles.
"Getting all the data from the fastest driver was a really good thing though. If you look at the [Formula 3] Euro Series for example, everybody drives with a different engine and for me that's not fair: you just have to be with a good team or you have no chance at all."
Frijns says he is tempted by the format of Formula 2, but has not yet made a decision on where he will race next season.
"If you look at the statistics, the car is quite impressive and the championship is great value," Frijns said. "As a driver, if you're good you're going to be at the front. The biggest problem of course is finding a budget, but I'm considering everything - we'll look at the situation in the winter and see how it goes."
