Ferrari Challenge, round 2

Local hero Javier Diaz once again proved his mastery of the Jarama circuit in Spain by taking another dominant win in the second round of the European Ferrari Challenge.

A good getaway from the rolling start wrong-footed reigning champion Ange Barde, who found himself in third by the first corner, behind Diaz and ex-F1 driver Gregor Foitek.

Barde versus Diaz would have been a great contest but the French champion couldn¹t find a way past Foitek until lap 11, by which time ex-British Formula Renault driver Diaz was almost seven seconds ahead. With tyres which had already run a race on Saturday, there was nothing Barde, Foitek or Irishman Michael Cullen, who harried Foitek until the 23rd and last lap, could do.

Briton John Seale won the second Class 2 round after a blinding start from seventh on the rolling grid. He was made to work, however, by Austrian Andreas Koenig and Dutchman Martin Lanting, one of whom was close behind him every step of the way.

Initially, it was fellow Briton John Greasley who led the pack away, but a shunt at the twisty complex of corners at the start of the first lap left him two laps behind and he threw in the towel shortly after. Koenig shadowed Seale for the first seven laps but then got a terrible run out of the penultimate corner, allowing Lanting to blast past on the following lap.

Koenig got second back on lap 17, when Lanting spun, but neither could do anything about Seale.
