Fans to get free motorsport event at Silverstone
Silverstone will host a free open day the week after the British Grand Prix to encourage people to participate in motorsport
Go Motorsport Live, part of the Motor Sports Association's initiative to get more people involved in the sport, will be the culmination of National Motorsport Week on July 7.
The public will have free entry to the the event, which will include information on local club events, passenger rides in entry-level disciplines such as autosolos and production car trials, and hot laps and rally rides provided by Silverstone - along with tours of its facilities.
Silverstone's managing director Richard Phillips said: "This open day is a great opportunity to demonstrate the number of different forms of motorsport that are available in the UK at various different budgets, whether you are spectating, participating or even looking for a career in the sport."
As co-promoters of National Motorsport Week, the Motorsport Industry Association and its members will be offering careers advice for those seeking employment within the UK motorsport industry.
Young engineers will also enjoy special access to the Formula Student finals that are being staged at Silverstone over that weekend.
Marshals clubs will also be offering advice on how people can get involved to highlight the MSA's 'Year of the Volunteer' initiative.
MSA chief executive Colin Hilton believes the timing of the event will help make it a success.
"Go Motorsport Live has all the ingredients to become an effective open day that showcases many aspects of our sport," he said.
"The timing is perfect, too. Those watching the British Grand Prix can, just seven days later, come to Silverstone and discover just how easy it is for them to get involved in the sport they've been following."
