Drivers happy with Long Beach track mods

Champ Car drivers have given a thumbs-up to minor changes made to the Long Beach street course.

The modifications included several new walls, tyre walls and fences, and the geometry of the Turn 1-2-3 sequence was changed slightly, with walls moved back from the track to improve sight lines for the drivers.

"It's definitely an improvement," noted Gil de Ferran. "You can just see things more clearly, and it¹s a lot safer than it was. They've also made the kerbs a lot better."

"I was very impressed at the amount of work that went into the circuit," commented Championship Drivers Association President Mauricio Gugelmin. "All of the safety modifications we asked for were taken care of, and I have been very impressed with the response.

"The key is to keep making small steps so things don't build up for a number of years," Gugelmin added. "If you keep chipping away at small things, they don't build up into big things. I'm confident we can continue to make progress everywhere we go."
