Drivers enthusiastic about new circuit

Drivers are excited by the prospect of racing on the new street circuit in St Petersburg, Florida that will host the opening round of the Champ Car World Series on Sunday

The 14-turn, 1.78-mile circuit uses an airport runway before winding through the streets of downtown St Petersburg, which means it should provide more overtaking opportunities than most street tracks.

"The layout looks good," said Roberto Moreno. "A street course always brings a lot of challenges, but this one looks like it will be a good compromise. There are some fast straights and some chicanes. The road has been resurfaced and that is very important to us. The best thing is the atmosphere - it's something people will want to come to."

Mexican Mario Dominguez said: "It's a very unique track. We've raced on streets before and on the airport at Cleveland but never on a combination of the two. The engineers are going to have quite a challenge getting the cars dialled in for this one-of-a-kind circuit! And for the drivers and fans, I think it's going to be super-fast!"
