Date changes for road course races

The dates of next year's Champ Car races on the classic Road America and Mid-Ohio tracks have been changed by governing body CART

The rescheduling of the Road America event is down to TV demands, plus it will allow better local promotional opportunities, and get the Champ Car teams out of having to run on three consecutive weekends.

Elkhart Lake's Road America event will be changed from August 17 to August 3, while Mid-Ohio's race will be moved back a week from its previous slot on the calendar, and will be run on Aug. 17.

"We're glad to have CART at Road America on the earlier date," said Road America boss George Bruggenthies. "The network TV time is good for race fans throughout the US who can't be here, good for the teams and good for our sponsors. It's a win-win schedule change."

"With the move of the Road America event to the week after Vancouver (July 27), we felt we needed to move Mid-Ohio back a week in order to keep our teams from having to run three consecutive weeks," said Tim Mayer, CART's promotions chief.

"We have to thank our valued promoters in both markets for allowing us to makes these moves and avoid the cost of having our teams run on three consecutive weekends."
