Dale Coyne returns with Swiss driver

Long-standing Champ Car entrant Dale Coyne Racing has announced its full-time return to the CART series, with Swiss driver Joel Camathias

Camathias competed in the first five rounds of this year's Euro Formula 3000 series and in 2001 he finished 15th in points in the International F3000 standings. Earlier this month he completed a two-day test for Coyne at Sebring.

"Joel ran very consistent and competitive times at Sebring", said Coyne. "Having never driven a car with this much horsepower, Joel took to it quite naturally and continued to improve his times over the two days."

Camathias said: "I want to continue to grow and become a better driver. I have gained good experience in Europe, but now CART is perfect with all of the cars being equal and the opportunity to get a lot of miles."

The team has purchased two Lola chassis for its 2003 campaign. Coyne is still hopeful of running two drivers in 2003, with Andre Lotterer the most likely candidate for the second seat. The German driver raced for the team in the season finale at Mexico City.
