Da Matta makes shock Coyne move
Champ Car World Series midfielders Dale Coyne Racing have announced the shock signing of 2002 series champion Cristiano da Matta
It looked like the Brazilian former Formula One driver had missed out on a 2006 seat after splitting with PKV Racing during the winter.
His surprise Coyne deal was announced in a press conference today.
Dale Coyne Racing have scored just two podiums finishes since joining the Champ Car field in 1984, although they did come close to victory with Alex Barron on a couple of occasions in late 2000.
"Our team has smelled victory in the past, it is now time to taste it," said Coyne. "I am very proud to have Cristiano join our efforts for 2006 and look forward to an exciting season."
"Dale has consistently produced competitive cars as shown by the results good drivers have experienced in the past," said da Matta
"I am excited about this opportunity and we are both committed to putting out a competitive effort for 2006."
Da Matta will have his first run with Coyne at Fontana later this week.
