Da Matta glad with RuSPORT debut

Cristiano da Matta declared himself content with his first weekend with RuSPORT despite being overshadowed by the driver he replaced in the squad, AJ Allmendinger

RuSPORT sacked Allmendinger after Milwaukee to make way for da Matta, but while Allmendinger strode to victory at Portland for new employers Forsythe, ex-Formula One driver da Matta could only manage fifth place.

"Of course looking at what AJ did with his first weekend with the team, we may look pretty bad compared to him, but I'm happy overall with the progress we had through the weekend," said da Matta.

"I understand a lot more how the team works, the team understands how I drive and how I like the car, so I'm sure we're going to be improving quickly from this point on."

Former series champion da Matta had started the season with the small Dale Coyne Racing team in an effort to keep himself on the grid after losing his PKV Racing drive, but jumped at the chance to join front-runners RuSPORT when their relationship with Allmendinger soured.
