Chassis chop & change for Patrick
Motegi oval winner Adrian Fernandez is reverting to a Swift chassis for the next race despite his success in Japan
Having shelved the Swift in favour of a '98 Reynard, Fernandez and team mate PJ Jones have now opted to return to Swift for this weekend's Long Beach street race. The team had problems with the chassis in pre-season oval testing but it appears it responded better on the road courses.
However, Fernandez warned that unless the Swift was quick straight away the team would defect back to Reynard.
'I hope the Swift will be good in Long Beach,' said the 33-year-old. 'We've been testing it and making progress, but I don't want to spend half the season developing a new car. If it's not good
this weekend we'll make a move to a Reynard.'
The Motegi win was the fourth of Fernandez's career. His car was a two year-old tub taken from a show car, fitted with '98 aerodynamics.
Patrick built it after Fernandez crashed his original in the season opener at Homestead.
