Champ Cars donate race purse

Championship Auto Racing teams, the sanctioning body for the Champ Car series, has announced that it will donate US$500,000 - the equivalent of the race purse for today's (Saturday's) race in Lausitz, Germany - to a designated World Trade Centre relief fund

"With our community being more than 4,000 miles away from home, we frequently have felt helpless in being able to help our families and our country through this terrible tragedy," stated CART's chairman and CEO, Joe Heitzler. "This is the CART community's way of showing its support and concern for all those involved while we are abroad.

"Our hearts continue to go out to everyone and we as a community look forward to returning home soon and becoming more involved in the healing process with our friends, families and communities."

On Friday, the Championship Drivers' Association announced a US$50,000 donation to the American Red Cross, and it is believed that the drivers and race teams instigated the initiative to donate the race purse to aid in the recovery from Tuesday's terrorist attacks in America.
