CART signs new tech boss
CART has taken a big step to strengthen its racing operations by naming respected engineer Lee Dykstra as Director of Technology and Competition.
Dykstra will guide CART's overall technical programme and competition staff, and will also take the lead role in formulating the new Champ Car chassis rules for 2003 and beyond.
"I'm looking forward to helping CART improve its working relationship with the teams and manufacturers," Dykstra said. "I believe that my technical experience is valuable to CART, and I am excited about the prospects for the future of this series. This is a great opportunity for me to apply everything I've learned in my career and help CART and the FedEx Championship Series reach new heights."
Dykstra boasts plenty of hands-on racing experience. He led the design of the 1970 Trans-Am championship winning Ford Mustangs and a series of IMSA Chevrolet Monzas in 1976-77. Since 1979, the Indianapolis-based company carried out design and engineering on several race and championship-winning cars in Champ Cars and top-line American sports car racing. He most recently worked with Forsythe Championship Racing race engineering driver Bryan Herta.
