Briscoe gets Laguna drive
Ex-Toyota Formula One test driver Ryan Briscoe received an 11th hour call-up to the Team Australia A1 Grand Prix outfit for this weekend's race at Laguna Seca
The 2003 F3 Euroseries champion found out on Thursday morning that he would be competing in the event, but despite the late call he's determined to make an impact.
"We'd been talking for some time about doing these last three races, but it wasn't sure what I was doing in Champ Car, so it didn't happen," Briscoe said.
"Then I got a call on Thursday morning asking if I wanted to do the race and I jumped on a plane and headed over here."
Briscoe hasn't raced since September, when he competed in the IRL IndyCar series for Ganassi Racing. He becomes Team Australia's fifth different driver this year succeeding Will Davison, Will Power, Marcus Marshall and Christian Jones.
"I've been following the series a little," said Briscoe, "and I think it's great to have the opportunity to race for your country.
"I know Team Oz hasn't had the best of time this season, but I hope I can do something about that."
Briscoe confirmed that discussions are ongoing about racing for the team in the A1 finale in China on April 2nd.
Team Australia have also brought ex-Australian F3 champion Karl Reindler into the fold as their reserve driver this weekend.
