BRDC Stars: DC and Thommo

British Racing Drivers' Club Gold and Silver Stars went to David Coulthard and James Thompson respectively at the AUTOSPORT Awards ceremony in London tonight (Sunday)

Coulthard is well used to receiving this prize as this is his sixth gold star from the prestigious club. Thompson, too, is a repeat winner from last year.

The stars are traditionally given to the top British drivers for each year, with a points system across every motorsport category deciding the winners. The Gold Star rewards the top British driver in international motorsport, with the Silver Star for the top Brit in a national series.

Coulthard had a flying start to the year with a win at the Australian Grand Prix, and he rounded things off with a fine second at Suzuka in the final round. In between, he had a particularly tough season but still came out as leading Briton.

Thompson had to give best to his Vauxhall team-mate Yvan Muller in the British Touring Car Championship this year, but the fight went all the way to Oulton Park's final round. The Yorkshireman also competed in the British Rally Championship before his campaign was curtailed by financial limitations.
