Bourdais tops Toronto practice

Sebastien Bourdais proved that wearing Paul Tracy's car as headgear at the start of the last round of the Champ Car World Series has not affected his focus, when he ended the first practice session here in Toronto with quickest time

The Newman/Haas Racing driver set a fastest time of 1:00.168 (105.006mph) to beat hometown hero Paul Tracy by over 0.4sec.

Tracy, who currently lies 11th in the championship, was second fastest in his Forsythe Championship Racing entry, a few hundredths of a second ahead of Britain's Justin Wilson.

Wilson, who scored his first Champ Car victory here last year, had to pit his RuSPORT car after setting his quickest time, with what appeared to be oil smoke coming from underneath his engine cover. He thus missed the last 20 minutes of the 75-minute session.

Alex Tagliani of Team Australia turned two excellent laps to go fourth fastest, and beat the second Forsythe car of AJ Allmendinger, winner of the previous two rounds of the season.

Oriol Servia, who like Tagliani also finished on the podium here in Toronto last year, was sixth quickest for PKV Racing.

Tagliani's teammate Will Power also did a fine job to go 11th fastest and quickest of the rookies despite having never driven on this track before.

Rookies who have raced on this course before, courtesy of their seasons in the Champ Car Atlantic Championship, are Charles Zwolsman (Conquest Racing), Katherine Legge (PKV Racing) and Tonis Kasemets (Rocketsports Racing), who finished the session 12th, 14th and 16th respectively.
