Bourdais fastest in practice 1
Sebastien Bourdais stormed to the top of the timesheets in first practice for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach with a time of 68.857 seconds
The Frenchman, who did not set a lap time until halfway through the the 75-minute session, lapped the 1.968-mile circuit at an average speed of 102.891mph.
The Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing driver, who won the last two races at the California track, did not even need new tyres to take his DP01 two seconds quicker than his pole position record from last year, which was set on the soft red compounds and in more favourable track conditions.
Second fastest was Mario Dominguez of Forsythe Championship Racing with a time of 69.145 seconds, followed by Las Vegas winner Will Power and his Team Australia teammate Simon Pagenaud.
Alex Tagliani's final flying lap for the RSPORTS team boosted him ahead of fellow Canadian Paul Tracy and his own teammate Justin Wilson, while Bruno Junqueira continued to punch above Dale Coyne Racing's weight with seventh fastest.
Power, Tracy, and Dale Coyne Racing's Katherine Legge all spun during the session, the latter two having to sit out eight minutes for causing red flags.
