Blundell's sponsorship drive

Mark Blundell elaborated on his plans to contest the 2006 Le Mans 24 Hours in an Aston Martin DBR9 while visiting the Autosport International show on Friday

Autosport International

Autosport International is a four-day event motorsport event that includes a two-day trade show for industry professionals and a two-day public show.

The former grand prix driver and 1992 Le Mans winner, who will team up with ITV F1 commentating partner Martin Brundle (also a veteran and former winner of the sportscar classic), said the Dave Price-led team behind the project is seeking sponsorship to cement the deal to race the DBR9.

Blundell is hoping that a combination of a television programme about the project and the recruitment of "blue-chip" personnel will boost the sponsorship drive.

He said: "I'd love to do Le Mans with Aston Martin because of the British heritage and also because Le Mans holds a special place in my heart. There's nothing like the feeling of standing on the winner's podium at the end of 24 hours in front of thousands of people.

"Hopefully we're going to have a nice TV programme built around our team and our project, which will be great for raising the profile and attracting the sponsorship we need."
