Blundell vows to race on
Former Grand Prix driver Mark Blundell is confident that he will be back to racing on a regular basis in 2001 after only competing in the Le Mans 24 Hours this year
Blundell lost his PacWest Champ Car drive at the end of last season and was unable to negotiate a new deal with another team because of legal wrangles over his old contract. He did eventually join MG for its return to the classic sportscar race, but spent most of his times at race tracks as a pundit for ITV's F1 coverage.
"It's not the end of the road yet for me in terms of driving," Blundell told Autosport.com. "I've still got a lot of driving left in me to do, and I've got to get it out of my system before I go and hang up my gloves and helmet. I've got a number of things I'm looking at, and hopefully they're going to be good, strong deals that will come together for next year. But in the economic climate that we're in, it's tough for everybody concerned. So we'll have to wait and see."
Blundell has not given up on returning to American single-seater racing. "I've got three or four different options and they cover a wide array of different deals. Two of them are connected with the US - one is a season, and one is a one-off deal for the Indianapolis 500. Then there's the sportscar stuff, a little bit of F1 testing, and some other bits and pieces floating around that are kind of interesting.
"And there's also the TV aspect. I did enjoy the TV, and I've never been one to go the normal route up the ladder. I've always taken a strange sort of angle to get where I want to go, and it may well be that I'll go and do a load of different things and mix it up a bit - TV, sportscars and IRL."
