Australian Carrera Cup expands for 2004

Carrera Cup Australia, the promoter of the one-make Porsche series, has arranged new fixtures in 2004 in Adelaide for the Clipsal 500 and at Barbagallo near Perth. The controversial New Zealand event at Pukekohe will be a non-championship race, and teams can start their season with another optional event supporting the F1 Australian GP in Melbourne. The 2004 championship will tax the teams with a number of different race formats

Cup Car CEO Jamey Blaikie said that the expansion of the schedule reflects the success of the 2003 series in its maiden year in Australia. "This has been an outstanding debut season for Carrera Cup and we don't intend to rest on our laurels," he said. "We'll continue to increase our entertainment value for the paying public by involving the teams in tactical decisions."
