Atkinson to race in Nurburgring
Subaru driver Chris Atkinson is to follow fellow WRC competitor Sebastien Loeb into 24-hour circuit endurance racing next month
While Loeb is making his second attempt at the Le Mans 24 Hours with Pescarolo Sport next month, Atkinson will be competing in his first circuit race at the Nurburgring 24 Hours.
The Australian will team up with former British F3 champion Alan van der Merwe, former British Touring Car Championship race winner Phil Bennett and experienced Nurburgring racer Jonathan Price in a Subaru Impreza WRX STI prepared by Autosportif Racing GB.
"Until recently I didn't even have a road racing licence and had to go through all the paperwork and tests required when I was in Australia last month to ensure I could compete," Atkinson told wrc.com.
"I drove the Nurburgring circuit last year after Rally Germany while I was touring around, it's one of the greatest race tracks in the world and I'm really looking forward to driving in the 24-hour race."
The race takes place on the weekend of June 17-18 - the same weekend as the Le Mans 24 Hours.
