Amon Calls NZ to Use One Driver
New Zealand motor racing legend Chris Amon reckons his country's A1 Grand Prix team will have to stick to one driver in the future
The Kiwi team currently lies joint-second in the Championship after being the only outfit to score points in all four races so far. Matt Halliday finished third and fourth in Brands Hatch's opening two races, before teammate Johnny Reid took a brace of fourth place finishes in yesterday's Laustiz races, while Halliday was racing in the Bathurst 1000.
But the 62 year-old former Grand Prix driver believes that the team will have to stick to one driver to gain the experience of the new A1 GP cars that their rivals will get with one driver.
He told the New Zealand Herald: "I know that's not what it's meant to be about but I'm pretty sure that some of the front running [teams] so far will stick with one driver, and New Zealand will have to do the same."
Amon also praised the technical exploits of West Surrey Racing, who engineer the car.
"In technical knowledge, experience in race engineering, in Bob McMurray and West Surrey Racing are a really strong combination," he added. "We are going very well and will get better when we get tracks our drivers are familiar with."
