Allmendinger grabs Cleveland pole

AJ Allmendinger kept up his momentum from Portland with a great qualifying lap to take pole for tomorrow's Grand Prix of Cleveland

The American took his Forsythe Championship Racing entry round in 56.283 seconds, an average speed of 134.705mph to beat championship leader Sebastien Bourdais by approximately a quarter of a second.

Paul Tracy crashed his car heavily while fastest in the 10-minute pre-qualifying session and had to take his back-up car, which he struggled and spun with. He will rely on his Friday time to start fifth.

Justin Wilson took third for RuSPORT but was twice blocked by backmarkers and had an off, while Oriol Servia did a great job for PKV Racing to take fourth, just 0.6 seconds off Allmendinger.

Nelson Philippe was an excellent sixth for CTE Racing-HVM, ahead of Newman/Haas and RuSPORT's second drivers, Bruno Junqueira and Cristiano da Matta.

Team Australia will line up eighth and ninth.
