2011 F2 runner-up Christopher Zanella goes fastest in final day of winter testing at Barcelona
2011 Formula 2 runner-up Christopher Zanella brought a successful season to a close by topping the second - and final - day of testing at Barcelona
The 22-year-old, a double race winner in this year's championship, set his best time of 1m37.075s in the cooler morning conditions, and it remained unbeaten for the remainder of the day.
Newcomer and German F3 graduate Markus Pommer came within 14 thousandths of deposing Zanella in the afternoon, but ultimately had to settle for second.
Behind him Mihai Marinescu beat 2011 European F3 Open champion Alex Fontana to third, both drivers finishing within three tenths of Zanella.
Italy's Edoardo Liberati beat Riccardo Brutschin to fifth, while Daniel McKenzie, F2 regular Kelvin Snoeks and GP3 midfielder Vittorio Ghirelli completed the top nine.
Swiss Formula Abarth China champion Matheo Tuscher, who replaced Aaron Steele in the line-up for day two, enjoyed spells at the top of the timesheets in the third and fourth session before eventually finishing tenth fastest, little more than half a second down on Zanella.
