Marquez and Rins are now holding station with 10 laps to go. Their scrapping has allowed Vinales to stay within around two seconds, but he needs to be making up more time if he's to make a fight of it.
Replays show Zarco lunging down the inside of Oliveira down the inside of the super-sharp Turn 14, and hitting the Portuguese rider clean off. Oh dear.
Zarco and Oliveira are down, having been a tenth apart at the previous split. Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear. Oliveira not looking in great shape.
Morbidelli has reclaimed fifth from Crutchlow, and the LCR Honda rider has had a huge moment right afterwards.
But Marquez's Honda kills Rins' Suzuki on the Hangar Straight, and he dives down the inside of Stowe to retake the spot.
Marquez is beginning to make an error or two - and it Rins gets him done round the outside of Copse! Brilliant stuff.
It's not happening for Vinales - he's managing to keep Rossi at a distance, but he's not making any inroads into the gap to Marquez and Rins. Crutchlow has passed Morbidelli for fifth.
Vinales is through on Rossi, and now has two seconds to make up on Marquez and Rins.
Rabat's gone down at The Loop, and has remounted his Avintia Ducati in 20th place.
Vinales now all over Rossi and desperately needs to find a way past.
Rins keeps edging towards Marquez through the twistier corners, but the Suzuki's acceleration is not sufficient right now to bother the championship leader.
Rossi is running a bit over a second behind Marquez and Rins, he doesn't quite have their pace. Vinales might, but he needs to find a way past his teammate first.
Replays show that Rins twitched through Copse right ahead of Quartararo but managed to hang on. Quartararo didn't, and his out-of-control Yamaha then served as a ramp for Dovizioso's Ducati.
Both Rins and Vinales run very wide at Brooklands. The Suzuki rider's error gives Marquez some breathing space, but Rins quickly closes back in.
Marquez and Rins are beginning to check out from Rossi. Vinales has retaken fourth from Morbidelli but needs to get a move on if he's to join this victory battle.
Dovizioso is off the stretcher and is now standing - although not quite walking. He's clearly alert but in some serious pain.
Current order: 1 Marquez, 2 Rins, 3 Rossi, 4 Morbidelli, 5 Vinales, 6 Crutchlow, 7 Miller, 8 Nakagami, 9 P Espargaro, 10 A Espargaro, 11 Oliveira, 12 Petrucci, 13 Zarco, 14 Iannone, 15 Rabat, 16 Bagnaia, 17 Guintoli, 18 Syahrin, 19 Lorenzo, 20 Abraham.
Dovizioso is stretchered off from the sight of the crash. Quartararo didn't look in great shape either but managed to limp away.
The first lap is in the books, with Marquez leading Rossi and Rins - but this could potentially be red-flagged given the amount of damage.
Quartararo has fallen off at Turn 1, and Dovizioso has been eliminated too. Wow. Dovizioso's wrecked Ducati bike is on fire, and he remains down on the ground.
Dovizioso looks to have rolled the dice on the medium rear tyre - all of his main rivals have gone for the hard. Formation lap now underway.
We've not yet had a Moto2 race today - that will come after the 20-lap main event - but in Moto3 Marcos Ramirez saw off Tony Arbolino and Lorenzo Dalla Porta in what was a thoroughly entertaining scrap.

Dalla Porta's main championship rival Aron Canet was wiped out by Albert Arenas, but remounted his bike and rode a spectacular recovery race to 13th.

Lots of F1-adjacent people spotted in the Silverstone paddock this weekend - the likes of Lando Norris, Stoffel Vandoorne and Ferrari junior Callum Ilott - while also spotted on the grid is one Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Chelsea goalkeeper met with Vinales and Cal Crutchlow at Stamford Bridge leading up to the weekend, and has come to the race the day after a thoroughly entertaining match against Norwich. Go Blues.
Championship leader Marc Marquez was on pole by a rather intimidating margin in qualifying yesterday - but this was the case in Austria as well, and Marquez was still bested there come Sunday.

The likes of Valentino Rossi, Fabio Quartararo, and perhaps Andrea Dovizioso, Maverick Vinales and Alex Rins, will be expected to take the fight to the Honda rider.

Speaking on the grid, Marquez admitted he is concerned about an "unusual" rate of tyre consumption towards the end of a race distance.
