Rossi doesn't make it around for another lap. he will be eliminated in Q1.
Chequered flag - but Dovizioso is on a superb one.
The final lap begins, and Dovizioso is still dragging the Avintias along. Rossi, meanwhile, is running out of time.
The lap gets away from Dovizioso completely in the third sector. He's even compromising Rabat a little bit now, and he'll only get one more shot at this.
Dovizioso has the two Avintia bikes of Abraham and Rabat following right in his tow.
Ducati would surely prefer having Dovizioso in Q2 to Pirro, and that probably explains why the wildcard isn't starting a second run. But his first flying lap might've been too good!
Four minutes left on the clock, every rider is back out on track except for Pirro.
The gaps out front are 0.256s between Pirro and Rins, and 0.196s between Rins and Dovizioso. Rossi needs to make up over six tenths to feature in the Q2 conversation.
Rossi pits after just one proper push lap on the first run, while Dovizioso gives it another go - but the lap gets away from him and he takes to the pitlane as well.
Current order: 1 Pirro, 2 Rins, 3 Dovizioso, 4 A Espargaro, 5 Abraham, 6 Lorenzo, 7 Rossi, 8 Rabat, 9 Zarco, 10 Mir, 11 Oliveira, 12 Iannone, 13 Syahrin.
Dovizioso can only manage third with his first lap, as Abraham slots into fifth between Aleix Espargaro and Lorenzo. Rossi can only place seventh.
Rossi looks in serious trouble here, he's running alone on track now and is well adrift of Dovizioso even before the final sector, where Yamaha has been struggling.
Rossi has waved Dovizioso through, and the pair are yet to record a representative timed effort.
Pirro's initial lap is a 1m46.283s, which is within a tenth of last year's pole position. That's a statement right away.
Lorenzo sets a 1m47.135s running first on the road, but Pirro, Rins and Aleix Espargaro all go quicker behind him.
Rossi and Dovizioso are among the last riders to emerge from the pits, the latter looking to grab a tow from the former.
Lots of riders who pretty much have to book a Q2 spot here to salvage their weekend. Dovizioso is probably a narrow favourite to advance, with the likes of Rossi, Lorenzo, Pirro and Rins certainly in contention as well.
Q1 roster: Ducati - Dovizioso, Pirro, Rabat, Abraham; Yamaha - Rossi; Honda - Lorenzo; Suzuki - Mir, Rins; Aprilia - A Espargaro, Iannone; KTM - Zarco, Oliveira, Syahrin.
Next up, a rather star-studded Q1, featuring Marquez's three closest championship rivals in Andrea Dovizioso, Valentino Rossi and Alex Rins, as well as his Honda team-mate Jorge Lorenzo.
FP4 results: 1 Quartararo, 2 Vinales, 3 Marquez, 4 Rins, 5 Miller, 6 Crutchlow, 7 Nakagami, 8 Petrucci, 9 Dovizioso, 10 Morbidelli. Rossi is P12, Lorenzo is P18.
The two Yamahas jump ahead of Marquez on their final laps. Quartararo thus tops FP4, becoming the fourth different rider to end a practice session in P1 this weekend.
The chequered flag comes up in the pre-qualifying FP4, where the top three of Marc Marquez, Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Vinales is currently split by an absurd 0.012s.
Ducati rider Danilo Petrucci already smashed the MotoGP Mugello lap record in FP3, and you'd bet on it being lowered further from 1m46.056s.
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Italian Grand Prix qualifying at a sunny Mugello, set to kick off in just under 15 minutes.
