Mugello MotoGP, Le Mans test day, Detroit IndyCar

European F3 - Hungaroring: Tom Blomqvist, winner of the first race of the weekend yesterday, has failed to move up from sixth.

The Brit is the closest driver to Ocon at the top of the championship standings going into this race.
Le Mans

Le Mans

Le Mans - Test Day: The Signatech Alpine team is quickest in P2 on a 3m43.682s. The team's ORECA 03, like the other five here today, is running new low-drag bodywork, which means the car should now be known as the 03R.

There was plenty of activity in the pits last night as the ORECA-equipped teams converted their old bodywork. The car, correctly known as the 03R, now has the look of a Toyota, with much more bulbous front fenders.
Moto3 - Mugello: Engine revs are rising as the riders in the world championship's junior series prepare for their formation lap.

Pre-season title favourite Alex Rins is finding his feet after a quiet start to 2014 and has pole ahead of championship leader Jack Miller.

But the crowd's eyes are on young Italians Romano Fenati and Francesco Bagnaia, who start fourth and 17th for Valentino Rossi's VR46 team.

Leading qualifiers:

1 Alex Rins
2 Jack Miller
3 Jakub Kornfeil
4 Romano Fenati
5 Alexis Masbou
6 Alex Marquez
7 Karel Hanika
8 Juanfran Guevara
9 Brad Binder
10 Efren Vazquez
European F3 - Hungaroring: Mercedes power is 1-2-3-4 with Ocon, Fuoco, Auer and Rosenqvist leading the way.

Ocon's lead is up to two seconds over Fuoco and the Prema driver is in a class of his own early here.
European F3 - Hungaroring: Ocon is 1.6s ahead at the end of the first lap, it's difficult to overtake at the Hungaroring and the Lotus protege has taken the first step to taking the win today.

Jake Dennis's fast start was too much to be true, the Carlin is in for a drive through penalty.
European F3 - Hungaroring: Lights out and Ocon leads into Turn 1.

Jake Dennis is the fast starter, moving up from ninth to fourth with a fantastic start.
Bruno Giacomelli and Alberto Colombo

Bruno Giacomelli and Alberto Colombo

Auto GP - Monza: Two ex-F1 faces in the Monza paddock this morning are ex McLaren/Alfa/Toleman and Life racer Bruno Giacomelli and ex ATS/Merzario driver Alberto Colombo. The pair are firm friends and just spectating today, soaking up the atmosphere.

"Alberto and I still love racing and we are here to take in the sights and smells as enthusiasts," Giacomelli told AUTOSPORT.

"I first came here in 1970, the day Jochen [Rindt] died just over there [points to Parabolica].

"The Lotus 72 is my favourite race car ever. I was so sad when he died in that great car."
European F3 - Hungaroring: The drivers head off on the formation lap for what promises to be a fantastic race two here at the Hungaroring.
MotoGP - Mugello: The late Marco Simoncelli was officially given MotoGP Legend status by the series on Friday, the 21st man to join grand prix motorcycle racing's 'hall of fame'.

As part of the celebrations of the much-missed Italian's career at Mugello that weekend, Loris Capirossi has just done a lap of the track on Simoncelli's 2011 Gresini Honda.

Readers new to MotoGP who didn't have the opportunity to enjoy Simoncelli in action should read this, written just after his death in October 2011:

Toby Moody's memories of Marco Simoncelli
AutoGP: Monza Yesterday's race winner Markus Pommer thinks he can get at least a podium from eighth on the grid this morning if his gear selection problem is fixed.

"I lost a lot of time yesterday, especially at Parabolica when I went from sixth to fifth gear. I think that cost me at 0.5s per lap, so anything is possible this morning for me... if it works 100 per cent."
Le Mans Test Day: We're just over 90 minutes into the test, Toyota is one-two at the top of the times. Nakajima is quickest on a 3m26.371s, with Davidson seven tenths behind.

Lotterer is next up for Audi on a 3m27.641s but the interesting thing is a super-fast early pace on what looks like a very dirty track. Nakajima is only four tenths slower than last year's test best already.
AutoGP - Monza: There were several penalties that were dished out after yesterday afternoon’s first race.

Yoshitaka Kuroda who finished a lowly 10th in his Euronova entry after suffering a puncture, will have 20s time added to his race two result after ignoring yellow flags yesterday.

Loris Spinelli also got a penalty, not for the incident with Christof von Grunigen that ended his and the Swiss debutant's race at Parabolica, but for first corner contact with Michele La Rosa.

He has been given a 10-place grid penalty, which is fairly meaningless after he was classified 12th out of the 13 entries yesterday.

Pole position for race two is held by Kevin Giovesi by dint of the reversal of yesterday’s result. The Milanese was unaffected by the penalty handed to his team for excessive personnel on the pitstop yesterday.
MotoGP - Mugello: And as we type that, confirmation from race direction that Bradl has been passed fit to race today after that crash.
MotoGP - Mugello: We've already had the morning warm-up for MotoGP at Mugello, and Marc Marquez was quickest again, but only a tenth ahead of his main qualifying rivals Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso.

Warm-up results:

1 Marc Marquez
2 Jorge Lorenzo
3 Andrea Iannone
4 Dani Pedrosa
5 Andrea Dovizioso
6 Pol Espargaro
7 Bradley Smith
8 Valentino Rossi
9 Cal Crutchlow
10 Stefan Bradl

Bradl had a nasty high-side at the Scarperia right-hander and has gone to the medical centre to have a potential arm injury assessed.
European F3 - Hungaroring: The first race start of the morning comes from Budapest, with the second European Formula 3 due off in about half an hour.

In race one yesterday, Tom Blomqvist defeated polesitting Lotus protege Esteban Ocon and managed to peg back the growing points lead that the Frenchman had been building.

Hungaroring European F3 race one report

Tougher times ahead for Blomqvist today: he's further back on the race two and three grids while Ocon has notched up another two poles.

IndyCar - Detroit - results:

1 Will Power
2 Graham Rahal
3 Tony Kanaan
4 Justin Wilson
5 Helio Castroneves
6 James Hinchcliffe
7 Carlos Munoz
8 Carlos Huertas
9 Charlie Kimball
10 Marco Andretti
11 Scott Dixon
12 Juan Pablo Montoya
IndyCar - Detroit: Rahal comes back at Power in the final lap, but he doesn't have quite enough and the Australian crosses the line ahead. That's a great result, given that he qualified 16th with a car that he felt was basically undrivable. Good drive by Rahal, too - he's been awful up to this point in 2014.

Kanaan was third.

Some late drama further back, with Aleshin, Hawksworth and Hunter-Reay all going into the wall on the last lap. What was that all about?
IndyCar - Detroit: Power's still pulling away, and the gap is now 1.0s with four laps to run.
IndyCar - Detroit: Power has reclaimed a couple of tenths, but he must be killing his tyres - Rahal still has every chance here. The gap is 0.6s.

Kanaan has lost touch with the leaders, and his job now is to stay ahead of Wilson.
IndyCar - Detroit: Catching Rahal might take some doing - he's wiped Power's lead out, and the battle for the lead is ramping up. There are still eight laps to run.
IndyCar - Detroit: Briscoe pits, which frees Kanaan up to try to catch Rahal again.
IndyCar - Detroit: Rahal passes Briscoe, and Bobby gets on the radio to Graham: "Nice job. Now go get Will."
IndyCar - Detroit: Rahal is still attacking Briscoe but he's also coming under pressure from Kanaan. This is working out well for Power, who is opening a small gap.
IndyCar - Detroit: Power's not taking any chances - he has passed Briscoe to move into P1; now Rahal is trying to find a way past too.
IndyCar - Detroit: Restart, and Rahal is immediately all over the back of Power.
IndyCar - Detroit: Briscoe will still have to stop again unless there's another yellow. If it stays green, it's shaping up to be a Power v Rahal v Kanaan battle for the win.
IndyCar - Detroit: The current order:

1. Briscoe
2. Power
3. Rahal
4. Kanaan
5. Wilson

Aleshin's car has been restarted and he is back under way, although he has fallen off the lead lap.
IndyCar - Detroit: Contact between Hinchcliffe and Aleshin has ended with Aleshin spining and stopping at Turn 7. Rahal immediately pits from the lead.
IndyCar - Detroit: Power pits from the lead with 18 laps to go. TK followes a lap later, and Rahal leads again.
We've updated our news story on the spectator fatalities during today's Jim Clark Rally with more details of the incidents and a statement from the MSA:

Updated news story: Spectators killed on Jim Clark Rally
IndyCar - Detroit: Some of the off-sequence cars are stopping to get back onto sequence, including Montoya.

Top five:

1. Power
2. Kanaan
3. Rahal
4. Briscoe
5. Andretti
IndyCar - Detroit: Dixon pits from the lead, and Power cycles into P1. Dixon almost got into an almighty shunt with Hinchcliffe when he rejoined, but they've got away with it.
IndyCar - Detroit: Castroneves pits, Dixon is P1.

Further back Rahal is still making good progress but he's now come up against Montoya again, and is getting a bit of a lesson in defending.
IndyCar - Detroit: Restart. Another nice getaway by Helio, who looks really strong today.
IndyCar - Detroit: Josef Newgarden has taken responsibility for his shunt, which is nice of him as we never saw a replay. Sounds like he just locked up and couldn't catch it.

Elsewhere, it sounds like Andretti missed a message to pit, and has now come in right a the end of the caution period.
IndyCar - Detroit: The current top five:

1. Castroneves
2. Hinchcliffe
3. Dixon
4. Munoz
5. Power
IndyCar - Detroit: Josef Newgarden is in the wall at Turn 7. He's fine, but a potential good result has gone out the window.

We've also just heard that Aleshin has been penalised for blocking - and having now seen a replay, the punishment was absolutely justified.
