Meeke puts his defeat on that one down to Ogier's local knowledge: "I think he lives about three kilometres from here. He can have that one. I'm happy to still be at the sharp end."

And Mikkelsen probably will hold fourth ahead of Neuville, as the Hyundai man is on the same pace as the VW on the later splits.
But Mikkelsen is still pulling away from Ostberg, who completes the stage 24s off the pace.

Bad news for Meeke - he's now 8.4s slower than Ogier at split two. That's the lead almost certainly lost.

"The top three is my target. On some stages when I have the confidence, I try to push," says Latvala. "Of course it's more difficult to concentrate when you reduce your speed, but here you have to really, really focus. Latvala is in, 9.7s down on Ogier in the end. But that still looks like it will pull him further clear of Mikkelsen in their fight for third.

Absolutely equal between Latvala and Ogier at split one. As he's a minute off the lead already after his lukewarm start to the day, Latvala doesn't have much chance of winning this, but if he carries on matching or pipping Ogier then he should draw clear of Mikkelsen and Neuville to make third more secure.

And immediately onto today's finale - SS8. Here's the info from Pirelli tyre engineer Terenzio Testoni:
"At two o'clock the temperature was five degrees. The stage is mostly dry with more dirty, muddy cuts in the corners. There's snow on those cuts at around eight kilometres with more snow thrown on the road at 16 kilometres. The road is generally dirtier than the first pass."

Some information on today's retirees and their chances of rejoining tomorrow.
Camilli is unlikely to restart at all, it's expected he has damage to the car's A-pillar and rollcage. He slid on thick ice into a tree. A typical 'Monte incident', you wouldn't necessarily say it was his fault as such.
Bertelli slid on thick ice into a stone wall.
Bertelli and Kubica are not expected to restart although we don't know that for sure yet.

Neuville is fourth fastest on the stage behind Meeke, Latvala and Ogier, and that closes him to within 5.8s of spinner Mikkelsen for fourth overall.

Looks like Meeke's PH Citroen team-mate Lefebvre started the stage a few minutes late. He went in behind Bouffier rather than in front as scheduled.
With timing working, we can also confirm that Mikkelsen's spin cost him third to Latvala. He's now 17s behind his team-mate, and may well be under threat from Neuville too.

With the split timing system frozen right now, we'll have to wait a moment to see if Latvala has definitely taken third from Mikkelsen (seems certain) and if Meeke's still gaining on Ogier.

Nearing the end of the stage, Latvala is faster than Ogier by 4s. Upturn for Latvala or has Ogier slowed?
Possible trouble for Mikkelsen mid-stage - he's suddenly 14s off Latvala and Ogier's pace. That will bring Latvala right onto his tail for third.
