Misano MotoGP qualifying

Live Text

Sort by
So, it's a second straight pole for Lorenzo, not that the Silverstone one did him a lot of good.

His chances for a first Misano win in 2013 are considerable - although his teammate Dovizioso, Marquez, the Yamaha duo, and maybe even Miller, could make it big fight tomorrow.

Our live coverage will resume in the lead-up to the race. In the meantime, keep an eye out on Autosport and Motorsport.com for news and reaction.
Lorenzo: "For sure I like this track. From the beginning, from my first year in MotoGP 10 years ago, I've been very competitive here. I achieved a lot of podiums here, for sure this track has something for me special.

"I made one month ago in the test 31.9. So was very difficult to improve the laptime, but other riders in qualifying, we take some more speed from nowhere, from all the brakings and lean angle and acceleration.

"And finally the laptimes were impressive, and this 31.6, is a great lap so I'm very proud of it and very happy."
Miller: "I just put my head down, we had good speed all weekend but I had a couple of spills yesterday. In the morning just pushing too hard on used tyres, and in the arvo I just couldn't' get the tyre to work.

"I can't thank the team enough. Judging by FP4 we have good pace for the race as well, on used tyre, both soft and medium. I'm excited. I didn't expect this but I'll take it, that's for sure."
Vinales: "Yeah, I'm actually happy about it. I was thinking to go a little bit more fast. The first tyre I got in qualifying, it wasn't great, so I didn't have enough feeling to push with the second one.

"I'm really happy I did it in the third one, it means that the bike is there, we are there. Tomorrow we have just to push - in FP4 we were great, so a nice chance."
Lorenzo's pole ends Yamaha's four-year streak at the Misano venue. It's Ducati's first here since Casey Stoner in 2008.
Marquez very nearly crashed his other bike at Turn 10 on his final attempt, and wisely rolled out of it.
Q2 results: 1 Lorenzo; 2 Miller; 3 Vinales; 4 Dovizioso; 5 Marquez; 6 Crutchlow; 7 Rossi; 8 Petrucci; 9 Zarco; 10 Rins; 11 Pedrosa; 12 Morbidelli.

Morbidelli didn't set a time, but the other 11 riders were separated by 0.740s.
Money lap from Vinales in the dying seconds to take him to third place. It's a Lorenzo - Miller (!!!) - Vinales front row.
Marquez rolls out, he won't be on the front row on Sunday. Morbidelli crashes at Turn 4.
Jorge Lorenzo improves to a 1m31.629s. Surely that's job done.
Dovizioso goes third, demoting Marquez from the front row. Final lap for everybody - it's showtime.
Marquez, who is now towing the other Pramac Ducati of Danilo Petrucci along, is up on Lorenzo in the first sector - but loses time in the second.
Marquez will have enough time for two flying laps here. Vinales slots into fifth, a place behind Rossi.
Rossi, who looked at sea for much of the weekend, fires in a good lap to take provisional fourth place.
Four minutes to go as TV cameras catch Marquez sprinting through the paddock. He gets straight on his other bike to head back out. What a guy.
Meanwhile, Miller goes second. How about that - looks like he didn't really need that Marquez tow after all.
But get this, he was up instantly - in the blink of an eye - and absolutely hauling it to hop on a scooter and return to the pits.
Marquez was on course to improve his own laptime - although he was still off Lorenzo's pace. He tucked the front, tried to save the bike, couldn't and ended up rolling through the gravel at speed.
There's 0.766s between Lorenzo and Rossi, but just a further two tenths between Rossi and 10th-placed Zarco.
As it stands, the Q2 order is: 1 Lorenzo; 2 Marquez; 3 Dovizioso; 4 Crutchlow; 5 Miller; 6 Rossi; 7 Petrucci; 8 Vinales; 9 Rins; 10 Zarco; 11 Pedrosa; 12 Morbidelli (no time).
Marquez is on a three-run Q2 strategy - he has already stopped and is now back out with fresh tyres fitted.

Lorenzo started his programme slower but looks to be doing the same.
Dovizioso moves up to third, Crutchlow and Miller making up the top five. The Yamahas' initial pace is not fantastic.
Boom. Jorge Lorenzo, 1m31.763s. Same rider, new bike, new pole position record.
Rossi's first lap is almost a second slower. But Lorenzo is about to smash Marquez's benchmark.
Marquez sets the initial pace on a 1m32.016s, Miller sticks with him to lap three tenths slower.
Lorenzo and Vinales head out later than most, probably aiming to avoid any tow artistry.

Speaking of which, Marquez is towing Miller and Pedrosa along as he starts his first flyer.
Q2 now underway, 15 minutes to determine the poleman.
The pole record here is a 1m31.868s set by Jorge Lorenzo and Yamaha in 2016. You get the feeling it'll fall today.
Q2 line-up: Dovizioso; Lorenzo; Crutchlow; Vinales; Marquez; Petrucci; Rins; Rossi; Zarco; Miller; Pedrosa; Morbidelli. That's four Ducatis, four Hondas, three Yamahas and a lone Suzuki.
Just 0.001s between Aleix Espargaro and Bradley Smith for 15th on the grid, and a decent effort from Smith's teammate Pol Espargaro for 20th, as the Spaniard makes his return from injury.

On the other side, it's not a good look for Tech 3's Hafizh Syahrin, who was on the receiving end of criticism from team boss Herve Poncharal earlier this weekend - and could do no better than 25th here.
Q1 results: 1 Pedrosa; 2 Morbidelli; 3 Iannone; 4 Pirro; 5 Bautista; 6 A Espargaro; 7 Smith; 8 Bradl; 9 Nakagami; 10 P Espargaro; 11 Redding; 12 Simeon; 13 Luthi; 14 Abraham; 15 Syahrin; 16 Ponsson.
He finds two tenths in the final sector and improves his laptime, but it is not enough. Pedrosa and Morbidelli advance to Q2.
The chequered flag flies, Iannone is not going fast enough.
Iannone's in real danger of missing out on Q2 here, as Morbidelli continues to push, improving to 0.065s off Pedrosa's pace.
Morbidelli moves up to second, as Karel Abraham and Michele Pirro crash out.
Three minutes to go, Morbidelli's threatening for the top spot.
