Hildebrand kisses the wall at the exit of Turn 3 but keeps going.
Hildebrand completes lap three at 230.941mph. The average is 231.160mph, which still puts him third.
Lap two for Hildebrand is a 231.010mph. The average is 231.269mph, which would put him third.
Hildebrand completes his warm-up lap and starts his four-lap qualifying run.
Hildebrand stalls on his first attempt to leave pit road, but he's rolling now.
Standings: 1 Rossi; 2 Alonso; 3 Kanaan; 4 Andretti; 5 Power.
Now we have one of the three Chevrolets in the Fast Nine – JR Hildebrand. He’s famous round here for crashing out of the lead at the last corner of the 2011 Indy 500 and handing victory to Dan Wheldon. His best start at Indy is 9th in 2014.
"Gonna need front bar softer for Turn 2 this time," Rossi is told.
Moment for Rossi in Turn 2 and he got close to the wall, but he kept his momentum.
The winner of last year’s 100th Indy 500, Alexander Rossi, is winding it up ahead of his attempt in his Andretti Autosport Honda. He started 11th last year.
Standings: 1 Alonso; 2 Kanaan; 3 Andretti; 4 Power.
Alonso: "I think today the car was better than yesterday. We had an overboost problem in the final corner, so the engine was like hitting the brakes and I lost a bit."
Lap three complete, a 229.898mph. His average is down to 230.275mph.
Power's second lap is a 230.017mph. His average is 230.464mph, which currently puts him fourth.
Power begins his run in the #12 machine after a warm-up lap at 222.346mph.
Next up is Team Penske driver Will Power. The 2014 IndyCar champion has never won or been on pole here, but did start and finish second two years ago.
"It's too loose, the car. Too little downforce, probably," Alonso tells the team.
Alonso finishes his run with a lap at 231.171mph.
Lap three is a 231.475mph. The average is 231.342mph. Looking good to go fastest.
Alonso's second lap is a 231.440mph. The average is 231.276mph.
"Sit in fifth, don't shift, don't shift," Alonso is told.
Alonso, with a new Honda engine, completes his warm-up lap. It's a 224.83mph.
