Ed Jones has hit the outside wall on lap 57! The rear of his car got loose and sent him into the wall.
Kanaan also makes a move to get ahead of De Melo, Carpenter has a strong lead thanks to the help of Pietro Fittipaldi's stand-in who had been second.
We restart on lap 55! Carpenter instantly clears De Melo to go back in front.
Davison has his say: "I feel for Takuma and his team getting caught up on that, it's not a situation you want to be in. I did my best with the adversity I faced. Everything we overcame, running competitively there for at least the first stint."
Bourdais has reportedly had problems with his drinks tube, which will slow him at his next stop.
While Carpenter will inherit the lead, De Melo was the only driver to stay out.

He will have the advantage of extra fuel and newer tyres when he starts.
Davison's last laps had been just over 203mph before that crash. Tough to see why his team had kept him out on track considering how evident the problem was.
The fact there were no changes to Carpenter's car in the round of second stops shows the comfort level he's operating at right now.
Carpenter leads Kanaan, Newgarden and Power back to the track.
And cars are into the pitlane now with the caution still out. Every one of the 33 cars head in.
Rahal and Andretti did well to avoid becoming part of that accident.
On the replays, Sato was blindsided by the slow Davison and couldn't react quick enough to avoid hitting the AJ Foyt Racing-affilated entry.
Davison was clipped from behind by Sato and spun towards the outside wall on the exit.

He and the 2017 winner are out of the race.
Bourdais is covering off Dixon into Turn as they began lap 46, that's looking ripe for a lively battle for eighth place.

The Frenchman is looking for redemption here after crashing in qualifying last year.
Right now we have an all-Chevrolet lockout of the top seven places, ahead of four Honda-powered cars.

Kanaan had suspected Chevrolet's advantage was only so evident because of the qualifying boost last weekend, but it's looking the same way early in this race.
Rahal has made up the most places so far with a total of 13, he's now 17th after starting 30th.

He topped a day's practice earlier this month, but was generally baffled at a lack of pace.

We'll give you a rundown when this pit window ends, it's certainly been frantic, with the majority of the field stopping between lap 29 and 35.

The big gainer on the stops was Kanaan, he got out on the clear track and is now second. That early stop on lap 29, one before the frontrunners has paid off.
Munoz and Rossi also come in on lap 35, with Wilson, Servia, Harvey, Jones, Kaiser and Daly stopping from the lower reaches of the field.
Dixon locked all four wheels coming into the pitbox, likely to earn him a penalty for failing to stop the car in time.

He and Bourdais then had a side-by-side run out of the pitlane.

Chaves had a problem with the fuel nozzle too, makes some wing adjustments and goes.
Newgarden, Power, Bourdais, Dixon, Andretti stop out of the top 10 on lap 33. Hunter-Reay, Chaves and Kimball have stopped too.
Carpenter, Pagenaud and Castroneves pit on lap 32.

Newgarden is now the race leader ahead of Power, Pigot, Bourdais and Dixon.
Now we're in traffic, Newgarden has managed to use it to his advantage to go second.
Patrick also had a front wing adjustment, to counter that loose car she's had earlier in this race.
First stops! Patrick heads in on lap 29. She is the first to stop in this race.
James Davison is struggling, he's slow on track as Karam, Rossi and Chaves battle three-wide before they ran out of Turn 4.

Chaves is 23rd ahead of Rossi and Karam.
Leader Carpenter has been on the rear of 33rd-placed Daly and is struggling to pass him on the exit of Turn 4.

It would be safe to say a pitstop will be on his mind, losing time behind backmarkers is the last thing he needs.
We're heading into the fuel window now with 25 laps complete.

Carpenter leads Pagenaud, Power and Newgarden.

DCR's Bourdais is fifth ahead of the Chevrolet-powered Kanaan, Pigot and Castroneves.

Honda is filling the bottom end of the top 10. Ganassi's Dixon is ninth ahead of the two Andretti-run cars of Andretti and Hunter-Reay.
Between lap 15 and 20, Carpenter grew his lead from 0.7s to 1.8s.

That backs up the theory Pagenaud is fuel saving, but Carpenter is managing this race nicely too.
