Given a WRC chance with Citroen's second-string team, but dropped at the end of 2012.
Thrown a lifeline by M-Sport, he gets better and better through 2013, outshining team-mates Mads Ostberg and Evgeny Novikov and racking up podium after podium.
A glorious career surely beckons, is he the man who can make a fight of the next year with Ogier?
He's potentially on the brink of his first WRC win this morning - if he can overturn Sordo's three-second lead on this stage.
Moto 2 - Brno: And here comes Terol into third place. Championship leader Redding is also doing a great job of coming through the field, the Brit is now sixth behind Espargaro, who has had a few duff laps.

Moto 2 - Brno: Lights out and a tremendous start by Nakagami as Espargaro follows him into the first turn.

GP2 - Spa: Calado suffers more drama as his steering wheel refuses to come off in parc ferme. He's out, at last, but needed some help from Herbie Blash and his FIA cohorts. Bizarre!

GP2 - Spa: Calado reports on his slowing down lap that it was "so hard" because his car was "unbalanced". Still, that victory boosts his slim title hopes quite nicely.

GP2 - Spa: Calado wins his first GP2 race of the year, holding off strong pressure from Leal to the finish to the tune of 0.4s. Quaife-Hobbs was an impressive third, well clear of Richelmi, Leimer and Palmer. Cecotto grabbed seventh from Dillmann in the late stages.

V8 Supercars - Winton: This wide open Winton weekend, which was particularly unproductive for championship leader Jamie Whincup, has really shaken the standings up as we prepare for the three enduro events at Sandown, Bathurst and Surfers Paradise.

GP2 - Spa: Now it's three for the lead battle as Quiafe-Hobbs catches Leal. Just two to go and Calado leads by 0.6s, with Quaife-Hobbs a further 0.8s back.
Moto 2 - Brno: Title challenger Espargaro qualified second, alongside team-mate Rabat, who has signed a two-year deal to race for the Marc VDS outfit next year, taking the place of Redding who is rumoured to be off to Gresini in MotoGP.

Moto 2 - Brno: Ten minutes until Moto2 gets underway at Brno and Nakagami lines up in pole position - his second of the season.
He led for a significant period of the Indianapolis race and held his nerve to grab another podium.
Will he be able to convert some of his outright pace into a first race win this weekend?
GP2 - Spa: At the front, Leal has got the gap to Calado down to under a second with laps remaining.
GP2 - Spa: As Coletti falls back, the logjam effect is causing some great overtaking. Cols and Palmer are the beneficiaries, to the detriment of Evans.

GP2 - Spa: Drivers are complaining of their rear tyres struggling - wasting their breath really, because everyone knew starting on old tyres was going to be a nightmare!
GP2 - Spa: Calado's lead at the end of lap two is 2.7s. Those fresh tyres should be a huge advantage to him in this race, and he's doing everything right with them so far.
GP2 - Spa: A charging drive so far from points leader Stefano Coletti, from 13th to fifth. He's the only driver starting on new soft tyres. So he's got to make hay now.

NASCAR - Bristol: While Europe slept, the latest round of the NASCAR Sprint Cup took place at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Matt Kenseth held off Kasey Kahne after a tense late battle, following which Kahne had to defend his decision not to ram Kenseth out of the way to some sections of the media...

GP3 - Spa: Alexander Sims wins his second career GP3 victory, on his debut weekend with Carlin. Team boss Trevor Carlin was cooing about his charge yesterday, and now he's repaid that with a win. "He's a proper pro," said Carlin.

WRC - Germany: Robert Kubica could well have wrapped up another WRC2 win on this stage. He was 10s faster than Elfyn Evans on the stage so his lead is now a comfortable 18s with one stage left.
"It's a very good time from him," Evans admits. "OK my run wasn't perfect, but that's a good run from him so fair play."

MotoGP - Brno: Just 0.259s covers the top five as the chequered flag is waved. The two Hondas set the pace in the session, showing a particularly good turn of speed through the final uphill section.

GP3 - Spa: Great battle for sixth between yesterday's race winner Kvyat and Zamparelli. They've passed and repassed each other, with Kvyat continuing to hold sway.
WRC - Germany: Early splits suggest Robert Kubica is absolutely nailing this stage and could heavily bolster his WRC2 lead over Elfyn Evans.
