Qualifying 1: Bourdais on top again

Sebastien Bourdais took up from where he left off in Monaco by setting the pace in the first of two qualifying sessions for the Formula 3000 International Championship at the Nurburgring this afternoon (Friday)

The Super Nova ace headed main rival and fellow Le Mans racer Tomas Enge. Rookie Rob Nguyen, who impressed in testing at Monza last week, was a surprise third fastest for Team Astromega.

Enge went quickest at the start, before Bourdais jumped to the top on his second set of tyres. With a minute and a half left Nguyen suddenly improved from 12th on the grid to second, only for Enge to knock him back a place in the dying moments.

Petrobras drivers Antonio Pizzonia and Ricardo Sperafico were fourth and fifth, while Patrick Friesacher rounded out the top six for Red Bull Junior.
