Manning talking to Super Nova, PSM

British American Racing test drive Darren Manning is targeting a drive with Super Nova or the new PSM Racing Line team for this year's Formula 3000 International

Despite Arden Team Russia's decision to take on Tomas Enge rather than keep the Yorkshireman on for a third year, Manning is confident that he will be on the grid this season.

"Arden was one of the teams I was talking to, but Enge's cheque book was bigger than mine," he said at the AUTOSPORT International show in Birmingham. "I've still got a number of options. Everybody wants a drive at Super Nova because they are regarded as the best team in F3000. Another option is a new team for this year, PSM."

Manning believes that joining a new team would not be a great disadvantage this season because everyone will be starting from scratch with the new Lola B2/50 chassis that will be used for the next three years.

He has ruled out taking a step back from racing to concentrate on his testing role with BAR, as Formula 3 graduate Anthony Davidson has done.

"Anthony is expecting a lot of miles with BAR and that is great," Manning said. "But if I go out and go faster than him, he won't get so much testing. Anyway, I'm a racing driver and I want to race."
