Lapierre tops warm-up at Valencia

DAMS driver Nicolas Lapierre topped the only warm-up session of the GP2 season at Valencia on Sunday morning

The session counted for little but honour, but despite this there were a couple of shunts and a red flag.

Yesterday's heroes, winner Vitaly Petrov (Campos) and Marcos Martinez (Racing Engineering) blotted their copybooks with offs at the final corner and Turn 11 respectively.

Martinez got stuck as he attempted to rejoin, causing the session to be briefly halted. Also off at Turn 11 was Xandi Negrao, who nudged his Minardi/Piquet car into the tyre wall after locking up.

Turn 11 also attracted Markus Niemela (BCN) soon after the session restarted.

Lapierre had the most to gain from the session, having been knocked out of Saturday's race when a collision with Lucas di Grassi broke his right-front wheel before the first corner.

The Frenchman's 1:20.662 lap was set with 45 seconds remaining, knocking Luca Filippi (Super Nova) from the top spot. Filippi couldn't respond, as he'd also taken a trip through the Turn 11 gravel.

Roldan Rodriguez (Minardi/Piquet) was third, ahead of Andi Zuber (iSport), Kohei Hirate (Trident) and Andy Soucek (DPR).

Title rivals Timo Glock (iSport) and Lucas di Grassi (ART) - such as they are with four points between them and only a maximum of seven on offer, and di Grassi starting way down the grid - were 10th and 14th respectively.
