Jerez test: Janis sets pace
Charouz ISR Racing driver Jaroslav Janis caused a surprise by setting the pace in official Formula 3000 testing at the Jerez circuit in Spain yesterday (Friday)
Heavy rain slowed the teams on the first day of the two-day test on Thursday, but conditions improved considerable yesterday, causing lap-times to tumble.
Arden International claimed the second and third fastest times, with Bjorn Wirdheim outpacing new American team-mate Townsend Bell. Janis' Charouz ISR team-mate Yannick Schroeder set the fourth quickest time.
Derek Hill, who drives for the Jordan Grand Prix Junior Team, was sixth fastest. The American was happy with what he had achieved during the test. "It rained all day yesterday but today has been dry so it has been good to run the car over the two days in totally different conditions," he said. "I was very comfortable in the car in the dry and the times showed just how competitive F3000 is, if I had have gone one tenth faster it would have out me second quickest today."
