Arden signs Liuzzi and Doornbos

FIA Formula 3000 International champion team Arden has revealed its 2004 driver line-up as it bids to regain its title this season

Speaking at AUTOSPORT International at the NEC in Birmingham, Arden team principal Christian Horner announced that last year's top rookie, Vitantonio Liuzzi, will be joined by Formula 3 EuroSeries racer Robert Doornbos. The team won the 2003 F3000 title with Bjorn Wirdheim.

"We looked long and hard before we chose our drivers," said Horner. "We expect Vitantonio to perform strongly as our lead driver, and Robert impressed us with his speed and feedback when he tested at Jerez."

Liuzzi finished fourth in last year's championship with the Red Bull Junior Team, and will be the pre-season favourite for title honours.

"Arden is the right decision for me and I hope to do what Bjorn did last year and win as many races as he did," said Liuzzi. "I had a good year in 2003, learning about F3000, but this will be an important season for me."

Doornbos said: "I plan to learn a lot over the winter so I'm in good shape for Imola. I'm really happy with this deal. The test at Jerez went really well, and showed me what a professional team it is."
