Vettel takes pole for second race
Sebastian Vettel has claimed pole position for this afternoon's World Series by Renault race at Misano, only his second ever race in the category
The Formula Three Euroseries graduate will be hoping not to need any off-track controversies to assist his bid to make it a double, after his debut win yesterday was secured after the first and second place finishers both received penalties.
Vettel's first effort of 1:19.434 would have been good enough for pole, but he lowered the benchmark further to set a time of 1:18.784, half a second clear of his rivals.
Andy Soucek was quickest in the A group in the split qualifying session, and will start alongside Vettel on the front row. Christian Montanari will start third, a good boost for the local San Marino driver who was the innocent victim in an accident in yesterday's first race.
Alvaro Parente just squeezed ahead of Davide Valsecchi to go second in the B group behind Andy Soucek, and will start fourth. Parente's time was set on his last run as the chequered came out to end the session.
Sandwiched between Parente and Valsecchi is Ben Hanley, determined to make up for disappointment of losing his second position in yesterday's race.
There was more disappointment for Pastor Maldonado. After being stripped of victory for a technical infringement yesterday, the Venezuelan spun out of the B group before setting a time.
