Maldonado wins as Montanari spins
Pastor Maldonado took an easy win at Monaco today, after his main rival in the World Series by Renault race crashed out
Pole-sitter Christian Montanari led away at the start of the race in his Prema car, but the winner of last year's race at Monaco went wide and clipped the barrier while going into Casino Square on lap 2. He was dully passed by Maldonado in his Draco car.
Montanari stayed behind Maldonado thereafter, until again making an error at the exit of the swimming pool complex, this time retiring for good and leaving Maldonado with clear air to take a hassle-free win.
Behind Maldonado, Pons driver James Rossiter came in second, and Gregory Franchi for Prema took third.
Other incidents during the race included Jaap van Lagen and Celso Miguez Pereira both went off at Casino; while a spin for GD Racing's Patrick Pilet just two laps before the end of the race has cost him a fourth place finish.
