Gene leaves Adrian Campos Motorsport

The Spaniard has been competing in the Spanish-based series alongside his Williams testing duties this year, but has decided to focus on his duties for the Formula 1 team. Gene stood in for the injured Ralf Schumacher at last weekend's Italian Grand Prix, and his decision to quit Dallara Nissan will increase speculation that he could drive in place of the German for the remainder of the season.

"I'm sure that Marc could fight for the podium in this series if he would not have spent so much effort and time in F1," said team boss Adrian Campos. "Being the single test driver in WilliamsF1 has left him with very few opportunities to test with us. Sometimes he even arrived at the track the same Saturday, directly for the qualifying session."

Gene said: "Working with all the members of Adrian Campos Motorsport has been a fantastic experience. I'm glad that I decided to enter the World Series because I do believe that the experience that I have achieved benefited the result I took recently in Monza."
