Fleming quickest in first test

Carlin Motorsport's Colin Fleming was fastest overall at the first World Series by Renault pre-season test

The full 30 car field came out for the two day test at Barcelona, where this year's championship will culminate on 28-29 October.

Red Bull backed American Fleming set his pacesetting 1:26.193 lap on Thursday morning. His Carlin Motorsport team was satisfied enough to wrap up testing early.

"We'd rather save our tyres for the next round of testing in Le Mans," Fleming explained. "We've put in some excellent work here and I reckon we are going to be among those fighting it out for victory this season."

Pastor Maldonado, another series returnee, had been quickest on the opening morning and ended the test second overall.

Formula Three graduate Davide Valsecchi took third for 2005 WSR champions Epsilon Euskadi, ahead of former GP2 driver Borja Garcia.

Reigning Spanish Formula Three champion Andy Soucek went quickest on the final afternoon, putting him sixth on the overall timesheets, behind Ben Hanley.
