Barcelona test: Montagny fastest
Frank Montagny, Renault's Formula 1 test driver, topped the timesheets over a two-day Dallara Nissan World Series test at Barcelona that concluded yesterday (Thursday), although much attention was focussed on Luciano Burti, the former Ferrari tester who was having his first drive in for Adrian Campos Motorsport
Montagny set a best lap of 1m29.765s on the final day of the test, outpacing last year's Formula 3000 runner-up Giorgio Pantano by 0.898s. Bas Leinders was third fastest, ahead of Formula 3 graduate Heikki Kovalainen.
Burti is considering a switch to the series after quitting his test role with Ferrari, although he struggled to adapt to the car after heavy rain hit the first day of the test. He said: "I still have some offers outside but this series looks really good. The car is very nice, but the weather conditions are not the best to get used to this car."
The Brazilian wasn't the only former F1 driver in action. Ex-Minardi runner Esteban Tuero drove for GD Racing, whilst Arrows old boy Enrique Bernoldi also took part in the test, running for RC Motorsport.
