The Renault e.dams driver led the way from DS Virgin driver Jean-Eric Vergne by more than half a second, setting a laptime nearly two seconds faster than anyone managed during the race event on Saturday.

Nicolas Prost completed a good day for the Renault squad by taking third place, almost a full second clear of Stephane Sarrazin, who was fastest in the Punta test last season.

Behind Antonio Felix da Costa in fifth, reigning champion Nelson Piquet Jr and his NEXTEV TCR team-mate Oliver Turvey were next up, as the team continued its recovery from a tough start to the 2015/16 campaign.

The team also gave an outing to Chinese racer Zhang Da Sheng, who brought up the rear of the field to make it 19 runners on the day.

OPINION: The departure of Audi from Formula E meant its long-time driver Lucas di Grassi would need to find a new berth to stay on the grid. His deal at Venturi Racing will ensure the championship's first-ever race winner will remain competitive into the final year of the current Gen2 ruleset - although it may not be a long-term fit
