Silverstone qualifying 1: Lotterer on pole
German Andre Lotterer snatched pole position at Silverstone during qualifying for the first of two British Formula 3 races at Silverstone tomorrow (Saturday)
The Jaguar Racing star headed team mate James Courtney by just four hundredths of a second to make the front row a Big Cat lock-out. Lotterer was on impressive form in the perfect conditions at the Northamptonshire circuit, as he continously took the 135mph Copse Corner flat-out.
Takuma Sato, who has already wrapped up this year's championship, was third quickest. His Carlin Motorsport team mate Anthony Davidson was only fifth following his Elf Masters victory at Spa last weekend. The duo were split by Manor Motorsport's Derek Hayes.
Philip Giebler, a regular in the German F3 championship, made a respectable British series debut. He qualified 10th for Duma Racing having replaced Jamie Spence at the team for these two races, the final rounds of the season.
The battle for the Scholarship class took an intriguing twist in this session. Championship leader Robbie Kerr, who holds a 11-point advantage over Matt Gilmore, could only qualify sixth in class. Meanwhile Gilmore secured the Scholarship pole.
