Qualifying 1: Glock on pole

Pole position for Sunday's German Formula 3 race at Hockenheim, the final round of the series, went to Opel junior driver Timo Glock. But all eyes this weekend are on title rivals Kousuke Matsuura and Gary Paffett, who qualified second and fifth respectively

Glock's KMS-run Dallara-Opel lapped the German GP venue in 1m35.010s, just 0.062secs quicker than Matsuura (PREMA Dallara-Opel). That fraction of a second proved crucial, as it denied Matsuura the extra point for pole position he so desperately needs.

Ryan Briscoe, fresh from Toyota Formula 1 testing duties in Spain this week, was third fastest in PREMA's second entry, while BSR's Italian charge Vitantonio Liuzzi was fourth quickest.

Paffett was two-tenths off the leading pace, but will line up on row three along with Team Rosberg team-mate Kimmo Liimatainen. The Briton is 18 points ahead of Matsuura with 21 now on offer this weekend, so the onus is on Matsuura to clean up.
