Qual: Sutil stars
Signature Plus driver Nicolas Lapierre took race one pole on a damp but drying track, but the story of Formula 3 Euroseries series qualifying at the Hockenheim finale was the performance of Adrian Sutil
The young German has been drafted into the crack ASM team to replace the injured Eric Salignon and the ex-Kolles driver grabbed his opportunity with both hands. After taking a mediocre 11th in free practice, he really upped the ante in qualifying two, taking pole position by 0.1sec, and out-pacing his new team-mates by 0.2sec.
Lapierre took second ahead of impressive Prema rookie Roberto Streit. Nico Rosberg - a double winner at the Hockenheim season opener - was fourth, while ASM regulars Alexandre Premat and Jamie Green were fifth and sixth respectively.
Overnight rain left the track soaking for the start of the qualifying one session. This meant being on track at the right time would be crucial. Lapierre timed his run to perfection to nab pole from HBR driver Hannes Neuhauser. Maxi Gotz, who has taken Sutil's place at Kolles, starts third, while Lewis Hamilton, who was on pole until the dying seconds, starts fourth.
