Pau race 1: Fourth win for Briscoe
Ryan Briscoe took his fourth F3 Euroseries win of the season at Pau today (Sunday), beating Olivier Pla in mixed conditions to take victory on the famous French track
The race began in wet conditions, in which the Australian championship leader appeared to struggle against his rivals. However, Briscoe was able to build his speed up as the track began to dry, and the Prema Powerteam driver was able to win by a comfortable 7.1s.
"The race started in wet conditions and the other cars were faster than me," said Briscoe. "Then there was a Safety Car period and after it was green again I had good chances to attack. Furthermore the circuit was dry so it was easier for me in those conditions."
ASM driver Pla led in the early running, but struggled with his tyre pressure as the track began to dry and was powerless to stop Briscoe from passing. Third place went to Timo Glock, who impressively charged up from 16th on the grid.
Two of the top qualifiers came up empty after incidents in the race. Pole-sitter Nicolas Lapierre was a strong contender in the early laps until he was forced to retire. Fellow Frenchman Alexandre Premat spent much of the race in second place, but a collision with the charging Briscoe ended his day.
Race two is tomorrow.
