Oulton qualifying 1: Piquet's lucky 13
Nelson Piquet Jnr will start round 13 of the British Formula 3 Championship at Oulton Park from pole position on Sunday after outpacing series leader Alan van der Merwe by 0.4secs in qualifying
Piquet was impressively quick around the testing Cheshire parkland circuit in his Piquet Sports Dallara-Mugen, and championship pacesetter van der Merwe (Carlin Motorsport) had no answer to his 1m30.583s best. Cash-strapped Adam Carroll was an impressive third fastest for Menu Motorsport and was also the first of the non-Mugen runners in his Opel-powered Dallara.
Jamie Green, currently second in the championship for Carlin, was fourth fastest, while Robert Dahlgren's final lap of the session was good for sixth in his Fortec-run Dallara-Renault.
In the thinly supported Scholarship class, Steven Kane convincingly led the way for T-Sport, his 1m31.482s lap good enough for 10th overall.
