Nissen hails Volkswagen performance
Volkswagen motorsport director Kris Nissen believes his company's triumph in the Macau Grand Prix is proof that the German car manufacturer is definitely a force to be reckoned with in Formula 3 now
The Volkswagen-powered Signature team dominated the end-of-season Macau F3 race, with Edoardo Mortara taking a hard-fought victory on his return to the category.
And with Volkswagen taking its first Macau victory since Michael Schumacher triumphed back in 1990, Nissen believes that the latest win is proof of how strong his company's power units are.
"In F3, the driver is a really big issue for the package and everybody knows that the team must also make a good job on setting up the car," Nissen told AUTOSPORT. "The final step to have the performance to win is the engine.
"Especially on a track like Macau with long straights, but also slow corners where you need a lot of torque, the engine is important. You need torque, driveability, power, and I think you can only win Macau in the way we did today with a really strong engine. So I'm very pleased with the job done by the engineers, to build this engine.
"For us, it has been a really good year. We won 30 races; we won the British championship, the German championship, only in the Euro Series we were not in the top three. But now we won the most important race of the year - Macau.
"I think everybody can see that we have a good engine, a good package, and I'm quite sure that we will have similar success in 2010. "
