New Russian chassis nearing F3 European Championship debut

Russian Formula 3 constructor Artline Engineering is set to make its F3 European Championship debut at the Algarve round in early September

New Russian chassis nearing F3 European Championship debut

Representatives from Artline were at last week's Norisring event and told AUTOSPORT that the ArtTech P315 is scheduled for completion within the next two weeks, ready for a test programme at Rustavi International Motorpark in Georgia.

The company plans to field a two-car team of ArtTechs over the final three rounds of this year's European F3 series from its German raceshop, with engines coming from British independent Neil Brown Engineering.

Artline's Egor Nazarov said: "The car is being assembled and we'll take it outside Europe for testing because we don't want anyone to say we have an unfair advantage.

"The team owner also owns the racetrack in Georgia, so we will have the facilities all to ourselves."

Artline will offer the ArtTech P315 for sale to customers, and will adapt the car to accept Mercedes and Volkswagen engine installations.

To that end, the firm held meetings with representatives from HWA and Spiess - the respective engine builders for Mercedes and VW - at the Norisring.

Drivers are yet to be confirmed for the project, which will be the first to take on Dallara in European F3 competition for 10 years.

Meanwhile, British Formula 3 champion Martin Cao has completed his Euro F3 programme with Fortec Motorsport.

Cao's deal was for the first five rounds, meaning he missed the Norisring, but he will be replaced from the next event at Zandvoort by Macau's Andy Chang.

Chang contested a handful of European F3 rounds last year, after beginning the season in British F3, and he also contested the Macau Grand Prix.

Peter Li will also return to Fortec's line-up after missing the past four rounds due to his father's illness, meaning that the team will be up to its full strength of four cars.
